Salad Days

This work is from my private collection. It was my first ever tea towel painting. I loved the ‘spideryness’ of the stalks of the fresh truss tomatoes, and wanted to convey that insect-like feel. It was also the first time I experimented with an aerial angle combined with an off-centre composition going beyond the canvas frame. I went on to use that format for my swimmers and other figurative works. The diagonal stripes add an energy that works well with all those angular stalks to bring the composition alive
