Pear & Mandarins

There is a sensuality to fruit. I’ve always loved the Dutch masters and how they can make a simple pear say so much. Here, the varying textures of fruit skin bounce the light, so they had to be convincing. I want the viewer to feel as if they could pick a mandarin and just start peeling. More than any other work, the blue stripes here feel like waves of water. After years of painting seascapes I find I can’t help myself.
