Each workshop is designed as a stand-alone learning experience and I will guide you step by step to complete one artwork.

Term 2. Course Outline
Build your skills over five workshops or pick the sessions that suit you best.
When: Saturday 26th July, 9th August, 23rd August, 6th September, 20th September 2025Time: 12noon - 5pm
Where: Into-Arts, 71 Ryedale Road, West Ryde. A beautiful light-filled space, close to cafes and 3 mins walk from West Ryde train station or Bus stop route 500X.Session 1. Saturday 26th July
Creating dazzling colours with underpainting
- How colours impact each other.
- Understand the role of underpainting
- Creating sizzle and calm with underpainting
- You will complete a simple abstract painting.
Session 2. Saturday 9th August
Creating compositions with impact
- Understanding positive and negative spaces.
- How to crop your subject for impact (aka: Why Degas was sensational)
- Using contrast colours for impact
- You will complete a simple still life
Session 3. Saturday 23rd August
Creating marks with meaning
- Using different tools to create different marks
- Dragging, scumbling and spattering
- Creating energy with marks.
- You will complete a simple seascape.
Session 4. Saturday 6th September
Creating harmony with light and balance
- Seeing colour as light
- Harmonious colour patterns
- The role of the focal point
- You will complete a simple riverscape
Session 5. Saturday 20th September
Creating the energy of a place
- Finding what you love most about the subject
- Bringing the foundations together
- Understanding the role of the viewer
- You will complete a seascape
